⚡ Shared space for a real connection

Our mission as a company is focused on addressing the widespread loneliness, anxiety, and insecurity for the youngest generation as a result of social media. Fam is way to socialize and connect online in a way that's similar to the real world. To achieve this, we've set out to unlock the same level of presence, intimacy, and authenticity, of IRL interactions, online. This means a few things.

Quarantine changed everyone’s lives. Socially, we were confined to our homes, and deprived of the one space where the majority of our time passes, and interactions happen - the shared public space. Whether it's the workplace, our social gatherings, or the local coffee shop, these seemingly mundane moments make up our days. Yet as they were removed, and all of our interactions became proactive and planned, feelings of isolation arose.

We've developed exceptional tools to stay connected with our closest friends/family, yet feelings of loneliness persisted. The IRL interactions with our ‘middle circle’ - our most frequent interactions - were removed. There’s nothing to share and nothing to passively observe because nothing is happening.

This isn't a new problem for teenagers, which is likely why we're seeing a widespread loneliness epidemic amongst our youth. Teenagers are glued to their phones and confined to their homes by default. As we experienced these problems, and talked with hundreds of teenagers it became clear that the most fulfilling experiences on our phones were connecting face to face with our friends, and ultimately, more people.

Fam is a social network based on synchronous interaction, with live video calling at its core. People follow their real life friends and lose connections, and we let them know anytime they’re in the app so they can instantly join them. As groups form in different rooms, nearby people and groups can join them, and jump in/out. It parallels the experience of going out in the real world. Socializing in the real world is about connecting with your friends and meeting new friends with them - at school, the mall, bars, college, etc. You get your friends together and have casual interactions with the people who cohabitate the public space. People are free to stay in their private space with friends, or roam/interact in the shared space. We’ve found that life in Fam is more interesting with friends, and that most people want to be seen.

We love the app because it's not just solving our own problem, but it's solving what we feel is the biggest problem for an entire generation - and we’re super excited about the future.
